This is three minute tech talks - where we quickly explain the concepts and tech behind new and emerging Cisco products, without all the fluff. Today, were exploring the new Cisco Catalyst 9000 series switches - so, lets begin! Overall The Catalyst 9000 series now runs on a single, unified, and open operating system - across ALL platforms. You heard that correctly! Less to support in your environment, more dedicated code stability and functionality from Cisco. Huge win. The 9000 series are also twice as fast and support twice the capacity of any other switches in their class. Last but not least, Open IOS XE gives you the ability to control the 9000 series via API, so you can do awesome things like this... Series Overview The Cisco catalyst 9K family consists of 3 models - the Catalyst 9300, our fixed access campus switch, the Catalyst 9400 - our latest modular-access campus switch, and finally the Catalyst 9500, the industrys first 40 gigabit fixed core switch. The Catalyst 9300 The 9300s come in 24 and 48 port varieties, which support PoE+, UPOE, and Multigigabit configurations. Supported Network modules include 1G, 10G, or 40G uplinks. Redudant power supplies are also available. Any of the 9300 models can be stacked in a group of up to eight units. Power stacking is also available. The Catalyst 9400 The 9400s come in 7 and 10 slot chassis, with the 4 slot model coming soon. This system offers dual supervisor engine capability, and the ability to mix and match several line cards with redundant power options to meet your business needs. The 9400 series is a direct replacement for the modular switches of the past - the 4500, 6500, and 6800 series. The Catalyst 9500 The 9500s come in 12, 24 and 40 port varieties - supporting up to 40 SFP+ or 24 QSFP+ uplinks. Supported network modules include 8 port SFP+ and 2 port QSFP+ models. Redundant power supplies are also supported. You wont find any supervisor engines in this core switch, just superior power and performance.
